Overview of Peripheral Vascular Disease
Description: Come to this informative session about peripheral vascular disease with vascular surgeon Dr. John A. Moss. Learn about risk factors, symptoms, and minimally invasive treatment options for this common disease of the arteries to the arms, legs, and kidneys.

Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery

Description: Join Roy Hanks, DO as he offers information on laparoscopic bariatric surgery, a new treatment option that is similar to traditional bariatric surgery, but with less risk, less trauma to the area, and a faster recovery time.

Men’s Health Issues: Why should I be worried about Prostate Cancer?
Fee: Free
Description: Dr. John Lanesky, urologist and Dr. Michael DeMattia, oncologist, will offer an overview of urologic issues for men. Issues such as impotence, bladder cancer, and prostate cancer will be discussed, with a focus on prostate cancer including who’s at risk, current screening recommendations, signs and symptoms, diagnostic work up as well as treatment options and new advances in research. A prostate cancer survivor will offer their perspective. Question and answer period to follow presentation.

Connecting With Your Inner Healer Workshops
Fee: Free
Description: Each month Rev. Sue Camaiore, M.Div., will help participants experience holistic approaches to promote self-healing and wholeness. Together we will integrate the mind, body and spirit understanding involving the relationship with self, others, and God. Taking time monthly to explore a different modality of healing such as art, journalizing, prayer, scripture, meditation, yoga, guided imagery, music, sharing our story, and others for self-healing. August’s topic will be Summer: Giving Oneself Time to Relax and September’s topic will be Fall: Back to the Routine.

Intro to Reiki/Energy Healing

Description: Come to this informative and educational session that will introduce you to Reiki, an ancient natural form of energy healing. Reiki means universal life force energy, and can be used to enhance healing for yourself and others. This is a method of healing that is supportive of (not a replacement for) traditional medical care. Taught by Rose Knight, Reiki Master/Teacher.

Focus on Hormonal Replacement Therapy

Description: There has been some significant media coverage on the topic of hormonal replacement therapy. This session with OB/GYNs Enid Roberts, MD and Stephen Olson, DO will enlighten you with the facts about hormonal replacement therapy to clarify these issues and controversies. Held in New Baltimore.

Support Groups

Angels of Support: This breast cancer support group meets the third Tuesday of each month in the evening. Call 586/463-3108 or 586/751-2861 for more information.

Alcoholics Anonymous (Helping Hands): Meets every Thursday evening at MCGH from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Check with front desk for meeting location. Call 586/463-5270 for more information.

Asthma Support Group: This group meets the fourth Monday of each month and will discuss different topics relating to asthma. Please call 586/493-3351 for more information.

Breather’s Club: This free, year-round program provides support and information to adults who are coping with lung diseases, such as bronchitis, asthma and emphysema. Register by calling 586/493-8061.
Chemical Dependency Education Series: This group will run six consecutive weeks with space limited to 20 people per group. Topics range from alcohol to drug abuse. To register, call 586/716-0980. Cost is $45.
Chronic Fatigue Support Group: Meets the first Monday of each month, September through June, in the evenings for anyone interested in learning more about CFIDS diagnosis. It is not necessary to register. For more information, call Vince at 586/254-7981.

Coping Together: Group runs October-April. Grief group for individuals who have lost a loved one. Participants are encouraged to bring photographs or mementos to share with the group. To register, please call 586/716-0980. Meets in New Baltimore.

Diabetes Support Group: Meets at 7 p.m. the last Wednesday of every month at MCGH. For more information, call Judy Zielke at 586/412-5125.
I Can Cope: Six-week series for individuals with cancer and their families. The program emphasizes the patient’s role in managing the disease. Learn about cancer, how it is treated and why. For information, call the American Cancer Society at 248/557-5353.

Memory Loss Support Group: This group was formed to provide support to family members and friends of people who have Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Contact Anne Viviano RN, MSN at 586/493-8500 for more information. No group meeting in July or August.

Recovery of Male Potency (ROMP): This self-help group brings together men suffering from impotency, their partners, and men who have normal activity restored through implant surgery. For more information, call Jon at 586/493-3032.
