Healing Hearts
Topics include risk factor management, stress reduction and how to recognize

H.E.A.R.R.T. Class (Heart Education And Risk Reduction Tips)
For those at risk for heart disease or recently diagnosed. Led by exercise
physiologists, occupational therapists and dieticians, this class shows you
how to make little changes that mean a lot to your heart’s health. Discussions
highlight heart-healthy eating, weight management and ways to incorporate
exercise daily. Stress management, high blood pressure and diabetes are also

Maintenance - Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation
For people with either stable coronary artery disease, or for those at risk
for developing it, who require or desire a supervised exercise program. This
is community-based, providing medically supervised aerobic activity, stretching
and flexibility, strengthening, relaxation and education in a group setting.
Registered nurses and cardiac rehabilitation therapists work with clients
to provide intermittent ECG and blood pressure monitoring, reinforce healthy
habits, and provide resources and support for ongoing recovery. Physician

PAIN MANAGEMENT
Pain Management Classes
This class is offered to any person having surgery at Fairview Southdale Hospital.
This one hour class teaches pre-surgical patients mind/body principles developed
at Harvard School of Medicine that will help them deal more effectively with
anxiety, stress, or pain associated with surgery. Each participant receives

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program
Training and education on lifestyle modifications, exercise, nutrition, medication

Amputees in Action
Offers people with amputations and their families education, resources, encouragement
and mutual assistance in living with an amputation. Sponsored by Fairview’s

Brain Tumor Support Group
Fairview offers a support group for brain tumor patients, caregivers,and other
interested parties. Social workers, clinicians, and spiritual representatives
gather to offer education and support to people affected by brain tumors.

PREGNANCY DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY
Our purpose is to support pregnant women in their work to understand, cope
with and treat their depression and anxiety. Women may or may not be on medication
for depression or anxiety. Also welcome are women who have never been diagnosed,
but have concerns whether they have anxiety or depression. Women should talk
to their care provider or call HealthWise if they have questions. Each evening
information will be given on such topics as defining depression and anxiety,
feeding your baby, medications for depression and anxiety, medication use
in pregnancy and post delivery, self care, the partners role, and other topics
the group selects.

Adult Therapy Group for Men & Women
Facilitator: Pat Jones, M.A., L.P. Two different groups: Wednesdays 4:30-6
p.m. & 6:30-8 p.m.
This is an 8 week therapy group for men and women addressing depression
and anxiety. The objectives are to improve personal daily functioning, to
develop and use effective coping skills, and to give and receive support.
Adult Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Group
Facilitator: Suzy Kronfeld, M.A., L.P. Mondays 6:30-8 p.m.
This ongoing weekly therapy group is an opportunity for men and women
to learn and practice cognitive-behavioral techniques to reduce symptoms
of anxiety and other general psychological issues such as assertion, depen
dency and control. The objectives are to develop and use effective coping
tools and to change ineffective thinking patterns.
Women’s Therapy Group
Facilitator: Sara Biewen, M.A., L.P. Tuesdays 6 - 7:30 p.m.
An ongoing weekly therapy group for women addressing depression, anxiety,
and relationship issues. The objectives are to reduce symptoms of depression
and anxiety, to develop and use effective coping skills, and to give and receive
support coping with illnesses.

Adult Therapy Group
Wednesdays 2-3:30 p.m.
Ongoing therapy groups for men and women addressing problems with depression,
anxiety, shame, grief and loss, relationship losses, and/or family
of-origin issues (i.e., abuse and/or neglect). The objectives are to decrease
social and emotional isolation, to enhance interpersonal and communication
skills, to provide support in and maintaining relationships with others, to
develop coping strategies for dealing more effectively with life stress, and
to assist in learning to ask for, give and receive emotional support.
Women’s Therapy Group
Tuesdays 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Ongoing weekly therapy group for women addressing issues of depression anxiety,
shame, eating disorders, grief and loss, relationships, and/or family of-origin
issues such as abuse and neglect. The objectives are to create a therapy group
in which each client will identify and address her own individual issues and
goals, to increase assertiveness and communication skills, to develop coping
strategies and problem-solving skills to deal more effectively with environmental
and personal stress, to provide support in forming and maintaining relationships
with others, and to decrease social and emotional isolation.

DIABETES
Individualized Diabetes Counseling and Education
For individuals with newly diagnosed or previously diagnosed Type 1, Type
2 or gestational diabetes. Topics include meal planning, self blood glucose
monitoring, gestational diabetes management and diabetes exercise prescription.

Individualized Nutrition Counseling
Topics include Step I/Step II low fat/low cholesterol, high fiber, low sodium,
diabetes, calorie controlled/weight loss diets as well as label reading and

HEART HEALTH
Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation
For individuals with recent (less than three months ago) heart-related diagnoses.
Continuous ECG, heart rate and blood pressure monitoring during exercise sessions
provide the basis for learning the principles of an individualized, safe fitness
program of conditioning, strengthening, and flexibility. Exercise sessions
are supervised by an occupational therapist, exercise physiologist, or registered
nurse. Lifestyle modification education for coronary artery disease risk reduction
are also provided. Physician referral/insurance provider approval required.

EATING DISORDERS
Eating Disorders Program
Learning to love one’s body, developing a healthy relationship with
food, improving one’s self esteem, developing and regaining one’s
identity, and reclaiming health and life are some of the primary goals of
outpatient treatment at Fairview Red Wing Health Services. Our team consists
of a medical director, dietician, and therapist, with psychiatric and psychological
consultation available. The first step in our treatment program consists of
a comprehensive assessment with our dietician and therapist. Medical evaluations
may also be required. Individualized treatment plans are developed to fit
the different needs of each client and consist of a multidimensional approach
that may include the additional services of group therapy and family counseling.

HEART
H.E.A.R.R.T.
Heart Education And Risk Reduction Tips for those at risk for heart disease
or recently diagnosed. Led by occupational therapists and physical therapists,
this class shows you how to make little changes that mean a lot to your heart’s
health. Discussions highlight heart-healthy eating, weight management and
ways to incorporate exercise daily. Stress management, high blood pressure
and diabetes are also addressed. Call Rehabilitation services for information

An informal gathering offering support to individuals who have lost someone

Community Education and Grief Support
Education and support on issues related to death, dying and grief. Hospice
staff are available for public speaking, training, and one to one support.

Red Wing Grief Support Group
Participation in this support group is open to adults who have experienced
a loss through death. If you or someone you know could benefit from understanding
grief from supportive listening, consider attending this series.Classes offered
